PR Log (Press Release) – Jan 29, 2010 – As the reigning
Miss California National Teenager, Kaeleigh Thorp will be traveling to San Diego this February to
crown her successor. “I had an extremely busy year since being crowned,” said Thorp, who has made many Bay Area appearances during her reign. Thorp was a “celebrity judge” for a Bay Area talent competition in San Francisco, invited to emcee the community stage at the City of San Leandro’s 100th Cherry Festival, volunteered at the USS Hornet 4th of July celebration in Alameda, and judged the talent portion of the Miss Black California pageant in San Jose, among many other appearances. At the state competition last April when Thorp was crowned, she received a model and talent contract, was recognized for outstanding academic excellence, received a half-tuition scholarship to the Milwaukee School of Engineering, a $2,000 renewable tuition scholarship to the University of Charleston, and won the Citizenship Award (based on scholastic achievement, leadership and volunteerism) “Next up for me is the Miss Teenage California pageant competition in April,” said Thorp, who will be competing as Miss Teen Alameda County 2010. The Miss Teenage California winner will be awarded a $10,000 college scholarship or $7,000 cash (her choice). All girls who make the top 10 will receive at least a $1,000 scholarship. Other prizes include an all-expense paid trip to compete in a national pageant in Washington, The scoring emphasis is on achievements and activities, but scores for personality and appearance are also included. With so much scholarship money at stake, competition is stiff. But Thorp’s impressive résumé proves she can hold her own against the toughest competition. Some highlights include being a member of Mensa, the International High IQ Society, Intertel, and the Top One Percent Society; being the Alpha Company Commander in her school's JROTC program; serving as a fall intern for President Obama’s “Organizing for America”; serving as a Youth Attorney; being a featured weekly columnist for an online teen news outlet; simultaneously maintaining a 4.43 high school GPA and a 4.00 community college GPA; participating in DECA and the Junior Statesmen of America club; being a member of the varsity track and field team and lettering in shot put and discus; being the recipient of the first-ever National Teen Leadership “All-Around Inspiration” Thorp also participates in school musicals - previously performing in Carousel and RENT - and will portray “Rosalie” in the spring production of West Side Story. She was featured in several public service announcements and a Barack Obama video during the political campaign season. She has since booked several educational videos for Pearson Learning and was cast in a national Rexona television commercial. She has done print, web, and runway modeling; is a Marla Dell fit model; was a Nature’s Cure “Clear Confidence” national top 5 finalist; and a Neutrogena “Fresh Faces” national top 15 finalist. The Miss Teenage California pageant is scheduled to take place the weekend of April 23-25, 2010 in Los Angeles. |
